UNDP Brings Ethereum, Cardano, and Stellar Together to Explore Blockchain for Public Good

Earlier this week, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) announced the formation of a Blockchain Advisory Group (BAG) that includes heavyweights like Ethereum, Cardano, and Stellar. This coalition aims to harness blockchain technology for social good and address pressing global challenges. What Is the Purpose of the Blockchain Advisory Group? Launched on June 3 during the Proof of Talk 2026 event in Paris, the Blockchain Advisory Group comprises 26 organizations dedicated to exploring practical blockchain solutions. UNDP Associate Administrator Haoliang Xu remarked on the group’s objectives, stating, “Blockchain technologies are evolving rapidly, but the key question is how these innovations can meaningfully contribute to stronger public systems and better development outcomes for people and planet.” This initiative shifts the focus away from the typical cryptocurrency discussions centered on market prices and towards actionable use cases that could significantly benefit governments, institutions, and underprivileged communities. How Will This Initiative Address Real-World Issues? The inaugural meeting of the BAG highlighted significant issues surrounding financial inclusion and digital identity.
